Case Study: Caddell-Burns
Micro Force, Inc. helped Caddell-Burns change over to a system that is flexible and easy to use.
Caddell-Burns Manufacturing Co., Inc. was started in 1946 as a custom coil winding shop specializing in RF coils and transformers for the radio and TV industry. Since that time their product lines have expanded continuously to keep pace with changing technologies. Today they manufacture a full line of fixed and variable inductors for every application, including switch-mode power supplies and regulators, filters, RFI suppressors and magnetic pickups.
All of their products are manufactured at their facility in Mineola, New York, using domestic labor and materials, and are available direct from the factory. Caddell-Burns does not sell through distributors.About the implementation
Caddell-Burns uses sales order processing to take orders and print acknowledgements to fax or email to buyers. When orders are fulfilled they use Starship (3rd party product) to create all shipping documents and notify UPS a shipment is ready for pickup. Starship updates Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) orders with all shipping costs and information, which can be easily viewed within Great Plains.
Ed Vincent, General Manager of Caddell-Burns, was absolutely amazed at the efficiency and speediness of the implementation. "Jim McCann (senior partner of Micro Force), told me this would be a fast project—and it was. Everything went as scheduled. The project was on time, within the scope and within the budget. Our project manager listened to everything we wanted to accomplish, understood it and then did it!"
Caddell-Burns was coming from an AS400 Apex system and found the Great Plains application to be more flexible and easy to use. "I'm a self taught computer person, and this system was easy to use and understand. It can tell me anything I need to know about a customer or item at anytime." The Caddell-Burns crew was very enthusiastic about migrating over to the new software.Return on Investment
Caddell-Burns' investment in Microsoft Dynamics GP is paying off in many ways:Improved business productivity
Had Caddell-Burns continued with the old system they would have needed to hire more staff members. They not only saved money but information is received quicker and easier. "Three years ago our sales started to fall and have now leveled out. The cost of owning and maintaining our computer system is about 30% less than 3 years ago. We also save on pre-printed forms ($900) and are using less paper. We only print the reports we need. Best of all we have not had a down day in 31 months and that is thanks to Great Plains providing a good product and Micro-Force backing it up. Help is a phone call away."
